Teen gamer’s life saved by his headset when stray bullet ‘smacks’ him on head

A teenage gamer based in California is counting his lucky stars after surviving a stray bullet that came through his bedroom window.

Speaking with CBS news Jonathan Gonzalez, 18, recalls playing PlayStation with his friends shortly after midnight when he felt something hit him on his head.

“It felt like if you’re wearing a bike helmet and someone just smacks the top of your head,” Gonzalez said in a TV interview.

Remarkably the reason Gonzalez survived appears to be because the bullet in question ricocheted off his Razer Kraken gaming headset.

“It’s still a trigger for me to process the thought that I could’ve lost my son,” Gonzalez’s mother Janet Popoca said to CBS News following the incident.

“We were asleep and if it did hurt him, we would not have known until we woke up hours later.”

Following his brush with death Gonzalez uploaded pictures of the headset which saved his life onto the Razer Subreddit – and as you imagine, fans of the gaming peripheral maker were quick to praise the build quality!

Complex reports that the LAPD officers have yet to arrest anyone over the incident, but don't believe the shooting happened nearby.

Luckily, the Razer Community Team also saw the news and sent Gonzalez a new headset.
