Once you upgrade your ship in Islets, you'll find that whole new swathes of the map are available to you – there are new sections of the sky to explore and whole new islands to discover. To get there, however, you'll have to face down some bosses.

MechaRat is one of these bosses. This long, mechanical rodent is another one of those ship battles that seem to have snuck into the game from a bullet hell, and now that you have a gun aboard your ship, you can fight back. Here's how to beat it.

MechaRat's Attacks

MechaRat only has two attacks, but they're devious enough to be frustrating if you don't know how to deal with them. One of these attacks will be used constantly, but the other attack is only used once you put MechaRat in its enraged phase.

AttackDescriptionHow To Counter
Rat BeamsMechaRat shoots out two rat heads with trails of mines behind them. Once the rat heads hit the walls of the arena, the mines will start floating to the sides in a random pattern.Keep your distance from the boss' head to avoid sudden rat heads, and try to keep your distance from any lines of mines.
Rat BombMechaRat creates a bomb that floats to the middle of the stage. After a short while, the bomb explodes into pointed projectiles that fly out in a straight line. This attack is designed to be a complication for its main mode of attack, Rat Beams. Having to be aware of the fan of projectiles makes things a bit more chaotic – stay on the outside rim of the arena once the boss gets enraged.
