Gearbox And Norsfell Games Release Gameplay Trailer For Tribes Of Midgard

Gearbox Publishing and developer Norsfell Games have released a new trailer featuring a gameplay overview of co-op survival action-RPG Tribes of Midgard. The Norse mythology game will arrive in 2021 for PS5 and PC via Steam.

The gameplay trailer is introduced by community manager Sydnee McLeod from developer Norsfell Games, who talked a little about Tribes of Midgard’s mechanics as well as showing off its Viking aesthetic in isometric view. McLeod describes how keeping the Seed of Yggdrasil alive is a crucial part of surviving. Similar to The Legend of Zelda series, dark creatures will invade at night, and it’s your job to protect the Seed of Yggdrasil from perishing. McLeod also explains that these evil attacks will become more powerful as Ragnarok approaches.

You’ll will be able to create and customize your own Viking, or create a tribe of up to ten players in the game’s co-op mode. Exploration not only allows you to take in the beautiful landscapes and game details, but like any good RPG, will provide you with materials to collect that will aid in crafting weapons, armor, potions, and defense items. Bridges can be built to cross bodies of water – and expand the game’s map – which can also be demolished in a second to stop invaders from passing. Leveling up comes with new abilities, as you should always be on your guard and ready for battle, similar to Shiro Games’ Northgard.

McLeod also introduces an interesting mechanic that presents the Seed of Yggdrasil as a “soul-drinking tree”, that can be fed the souls of conquered enemies to allow it to flourish. Adding the threat of foreboding Giants to the game carries a constant feeling of dread for players, reminiscent of the anime and manga series Attack on Titan, in which the town of Shiganshina is constantly living in fear of the Titans that grow hungrier behind the wall. Once Giants are defeated, they will drop a horde of loot for you and your comrades to collect and use to build stronger defenses.

Winner of the 2017 Ubisoft Indie Series, Tribes of Midgard offers a procedurally generated world where new gameplay is never-ending.
