Dragon Ball FighterZ Will Get Rollback Netcode In A Future Update

Evo 2022 is upon us, and you know what that means – fighting games fans will not only be looking forward to watching the pros battling it out, but they'll also be anticipating some big announcements for their favourite game. Dragon Ball FighterZ has been part of the event ever since its launch in 2018 – and over the years, the roster has grown to include characters from all the series and movies from the IP. The devs had an announcement to make this year, and surprisingly, it wasn't another Goku.

After the announcement of the Top 8 finals at Evo 2022, Dragon Ball FighterZ producer Tomoko Hiroki announced that the game will finally be receiving rollback netcode. The feature will come in a future update for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. It was also reiterated that the game will not be getting any more characters or balance updates and the game is as finely tuned as possible.

The DBFZ community has been begging Bandai Namco and Arc System Works to implement the feature for a really long time, but for some reason, it has finally been added to the game, almost four years and a handful of Gokus after its launch. Needless to say, the community is quite happy with this news, and so are the pros.

Fighting game maestro, SonicFox was thrilled with the news, tweeting, "I will main dbfz again". This received a reply from none other than his 2018 and 2019 DBFZ rival, GO1 – who said that he'd do the same. It looks like the rivalry is back on, because it ended with the former saying, "Let us steal the stage next year!"

If you're wondering what rollback netcode is, and why it's such a big deal, the feature essentially prevents lag while playing online matches. If there's high latency between two online players, the rollback netcode algorithm predicts what command a player will input in the event of a desync. If the prediction was correct, the fight will continue without any issues; if it was wrong, the game jumps to a point before the prediction was made and continues from there.
