Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer beta gets its dates – how to take part

Activision has confirmed which dates you can take part in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer beta and what is included.

There have been leaks and rumours regarding Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer beta, but Activision and Infinity Ward have finally got round to sharing official details about when it’s taking place.

Unsurprisingly, the beta will run across two different weekends throughout September, with it being a temporary exclusive for PlayStation owners to start with. Just like how Activision handled Call Of Duty: Vanguard’s beta.

As for what the beta will entail, Activision is saving the specifics for its Call Of Duty: Next live stream, but it promises ‘a robust multiplayer experience going beyond the core 6v6 experience with a variety of meticulously designed maps of various sizes, and an equally impressive set of modes, progression experiences, and other aspects.’

That said, it has revealed one new map for the game: Marina Bay Grand Prix, a racing circuit where gunfights take place within the main infield rather than on the racetrack itself.

You’ll also be able to earn in-game rewards just by playing the beta and if you’ve pre-ordered the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare 2, you can use the four extra operators and FJX Cinder Weapon Vault that come with it in the beta too.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta – when is it happening?

Like we said, the beta is divided across two weekends. The first one is only for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and runs from September 16 at 6pm BST to September 20.

However, the first two days will be exclusive to anyone who has pre-ordered the game. Starting from September 18, the beta will open to all PlayStation users.

The second weekend runs from September 22 at 6pm BST to September 26 and is across all platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The first two days are only for those who pre-ordered the game for Xbox or PC. PlayStation owners will be unaffected, however, and can take part whether they’ve pre-ordered or not.

September 24 at 6pm BST is when the beta becomes truly public. The second beta weekend will also have crossplay functionality throughout its whole duration.

You can find a breakdown of how the beta works on the Call Of Duty website, and a separate blog post explains what else you’ll receive by pre-ordering the full game.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 28.
