Arcane Wins Emmy For Outstanding Animated Program

Arcane has won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation. Netflix and Riot's hit show added more prizes to its ever-growing list of worldwide recognition that already includes wins at Golden Reel Awards, Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards, and Annie Awards.

After being nominated for The Emmys 2022 in the animation category, Arcane had high expectations for it to take the gold prize. While it faced competition from beloved shows such as Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, and Marvel's What If…?, Arcane arguably upped them since it just had more going for it in terms of attention to detail in its animation, and pushing the medium forward. The Emmys agreed.

On Twitter, the creators said they were more than honored to win the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, and thanked all the fans who make it possible. "It's a big deal for us as we come from video games. It's been amazing to see the world embrace our characters and our stories," Arcane co-creator Christian Linke said when picking up the prize on stage.

Produced by Riot Games and Fortiche, Arcane opens doors to the League of Legends universe for a casual audience, via Netflix, while also standing true to its core base of long-term fans. Arcane's win also marks the first time ever for a streaming show to pick up an Emmy Award.

Cast members have congratulated the team for winning. "This is incredible. Congratulations to my Arcane family. So lucky to be a part of this show," wrote Hailee Steinfeld, the voice of Vi in the show.

Riot recently dropped the final episode of its documentary miniseries Bridging the Rift, revealing how exactly Arcane was shaped as one of the most impressive and widely discussed shows of 2021. In the meantime, Season 2 is already in production and hopefully we won't have too long a wait to return to Piltover and Zaun.
