All The Nintendo Switch Games Announced In August's Indie World Stream
Nintendo aired its first Indie World stream since March earlier today, showcasing a variety of new and beloved indie games that are coming to the Switch later this year and beyond. We got a look at nearly two dozen titles during the 20-minute stream, including acclaimed games like Hades, Spiritfarer, and Grindstone, plus some intriguing newly announced titles such as Card Shark and Evergate.
Below, we’ve rounded up all of the titles that were spotlighted during August’s Indie World presentation, including the games and demos that are available on the eShop today. Nintendo has also kicked off a new indie-focused sale in its digital store that offers discounts on an array of popular indie titles.
Supergiant Games’ roguelike action-RPG Hades has been available in Early Access on PC since December 2018, but it’s officially making its console debut this year when it comes to Nintendo Switch in Fall 2020. The Switch version will feature cross-save with the PC edition, so you can carry over any save data you already have, but you’ll need to own a version of the game on both platforms to take advantage of the feature.
Described as a “’90s internet simulator,” Hypnospace Outlaw places players in the role of a Hypnospace Police Department Enforcer, which involves browsing old, ’90s AOL-style websites to find clues and track down virtual villains. The game launches on Nintendo Switch on August 27, while a free demo goes live on the eShop today.
The beautiful and poignant sidescrolling adventure game Spiritfarer launches on Nintendo today. As the Spiritfarer Stella, you’ll need to befriend spirits of the recently departed and help them cross over into the afterlife in your ferry.
Garden Story is a top-down “wholesome action adventure game” in which you take control of a grape named Concord and need to help rebuild your community. To do that, you’ll need to explore the world and gather resources with which to restore buildings and improve the town. Garden Story releases on Switch in 2021.
Subnautica / Subnautica: Below Zero
The underwater exploration game Subnautica and its arctic follow-up, Subnautica: Below Zero, are both coming to Nintendo Switch next year. In each game, you’ll need to explore the uncharted waters of an alien world and collect resources, craft structures, and avoid hostile lifeforms as you unravel the mysteries of the planet you crash landed on.
Takeshi and Hiroshi
Another title surprise-launching on Switch today, Takeshi and Hiroshi is a game about aspiring game designer Takeshi, who is building a sidescrolling action-RPG for his younger brother Hiroshi to play. Your goal is to make a game that Hiroshi will really enjoy, but you’ll need to make sure it isn’t too challenging, or he won’t be able to beat it.
Raji: An Ancient Epic
A beautiful action-adventure game set in ancient India, Raji: An Ancient Epic casts players in the role of a young girl who must battle the demonic forces invading the world and rescue her younger brother. The game launches on Nintendo Switch today as a timed console exclusive.
Bear and Breakfast
Bear and Breakfast is a charming management game in which you play as Hank, a bear who is trying to turn a dilapidated shack into a bed and breakfast. To do so, you’ll need to customize its rooms, increase your rep, and explore the forest to uncover some bigger secrets. Bear and Breakfast launches for Switch as a timed console exclusive in 2021.
A Short Hike
Acclaimed indie hit A Short Hike is making its console debut as a timed Switch exclusive today. You play as Claire, a teen bird who is camping at Hawk Peak Provincial Park. While awaiting an important phone call, Claire sets off for the mountain’s summit to get better reception, meeting and aiding a motley cast of animals on the way.
Developed by the studio behind Reigns: Kings and Queens, Card Shark is a game all about cheating at cards. You’ll need to master real card tricks and manipulations to move your way up 18th-century French society, but you’ll need to be careful not to get caught, as the results could prove deadly. Card Shark is releasing on Nintendo Switch in 2021.
Following its Early Access launch earlier this year, the loot-driven dungeon crawler Torchlight III is coming to Nintendo Switch this fall. The Switch version will feature an exclusive piece of content: a unique red fairy pet that you’ll only be able to get on Nintendo’s hybrid console.
The stylish, first-person puzzle game Manifold Garden also arrives on Nintendo Switch today. The title challenges you to navigate a strange, M.C. Escher-inspired world, and you’ll need to manipulate gravity to change your perspective and ascend the impossible structures that stretch before you.
Evergate is a 2D sidescrolling adventure game reminiscent of Ori and the Will O’ the Wisps. As Ki, you’ll need to make use of your unique Soulflame ability to slow down time and navigate the dream-like world of the afterlife. Evergate launches on the Switch eShop today.
