WePlay! and Epic Esports confirm an Asia Divine Division for OMEGA League
Just last week WePlay! Esports alongside Epic Esports announced two separate events featuring the Americas and Europe/CIS. Today that have confirmed an additional regional event – Asia Divine Division.
WePlay! Esports and Epic Esports have been working hard to
keep the Dota 2 action flowing as we continue to be locked in the current global
pandemic. As such, the Americas and EU/CIS iterations of the OMEGA League were
announced just last week. Today we have confirmation of the Asia division,
which will include teams from both the China and Southeast Asia regions. The
tournament is set to feature a total of 12 teams, with six coming from each
region, all playing for a prize pool of $40,000.
Anton ‘WarLocK’ Tokarev, lead esports manager at WePlay! had
the following to say on this new addition,
We announced OMEGA League last week, and it included both European and American regions. Today we are happy to report that the players from China and SEA will also be a part of this event. With the remaining two competitive regions joining the fray, OMEGA League becomes truly global.”
The teams playing in the Asia Divine Division will begin in two separate groups, split into their region – SEA or China, with the teams playing in a series of best-of-three games to determine the top seeds at the end of the group stage. The top two teams will move on to the upper bracket, while third place will move to the lower bracket – with fourth and fifth from each group moving into a separate play-in stage where they will fight for the remaining two lower bracket spots.
Mark Averbukh, a representative of Epic Esports Events had
some insight on the upcoming event,
As we mentioned, we want to make this August unforgettable for all Dota 2 fans. And we just can’t imagine any International without one of the strongest regions! Together with WePlay! Esports, we got the best teams from three biggest parts of the world to bring you even more breathtaking emotions!”
As mentioned by Mark Averbukh above, OMEGA League: Asia Divine Division is set to take place in August, with the group stages kicking off on the 1st and the playoffs beginning on the 12th and running through until the 22nd. However, the action will kick off before then as each region has two open qualifier positions which are set to be filled between July 25th and 30th. Below is a list of which teams will be competing in each regional group stage bracket:
Southeast Asia
- Neon Esports
- Reality Rift
- Team Adroit
- Cignal Ultra
- Open Qualifier winner #1
- Open Qualifier winner #2
China
- Ocean
- Blaze
- EHOME.Immortal
- Aster.Aries
- Open Qualifier winner #1
- Open Qualifier winner #2
WePlay! and Epic Esports have also added that the winning teams of the open qualifiers will be provided with $20,000 worth of gaming gear – this includes that of North and South America, CIS and Europe too – and this is over and above the prize pool, which makes the total prize pool value of OMEGA League $650,000. We look forward to all these events coming as August quickly approaches.
