Mission Control announces Xfinity City Series – Esports Insider
Community-focused esports company Mission Control and broadband provider Xfinity have announced a new esports tournament called the Xfinity City Series.
The $50,000 (~£37,000) tournament will take place in five cities in the United States — Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington DC — this year across a period of three months.

The tournament series will feature Fortnite, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Moreover, the Xfinity City Series will feature month-long events.
Austin Smith, CEO of Mission Control, said: “Recreational gaming is about community. Similar to a summer softball or intramural volleyball league, we’re committed to helping brands create communities where gamers could connect in an engaging way while competing in their favorite games alongside friends.”
Each event will have four regular-season games, with finalists advancing to the playoffs. Xfinity and Mission Control announced that all monthly event winners will receive custom controllers. In addition, the best players will take home a PS5 or a Nintendo Switch, depending on the game they participate in.
Xfinity is a known partner of esports brands and teams, having partnered with the Overwatch League and a number of other esports entities in the past.

Esports Insider says: Xfinity is starting off 2022 with an interesting partnership with Mission Control, a company known for its community projects based on esports. Xfinity has been relatively quiet on the esports front in 2021, and it’s good to see the brand investing in tournaments again.
