fng is a free agent, at last

Artsiom “fng” Barshak’s contract with Gambit Esports has come to an end on August 31, the organization announced today on Twitter, and both parties agreed to continue on separate ways.

While Gambit haven’t been able to keep their Dota 2 team going since March this year when the coronavirus pandemic forced the esports competitive scene to re-adjust, fng found in Alliance the perfect new team to keep himself motivated.

He has been standing-in for the Swedish organization since early May and has already participated in eight online tournaments under the Alliance tag. In three out of those, fng reached top 6, played in two grand finals and he is currently fighting through the Immortal division in the OMEGA League.

Although all the Alliance team members have been asked on numerous occasions in interviews or official live broadcast interventions if fng is set to officially join the team at some point, nobody has ever given a definitive answer, but everyone had only positive words to say regarding his contribution to the team. Most recently, in an interview with VPEsports just ahead of the OMEGA League, Simon “Handsken” Haag said the following: “we are not searching for anybody else if that’s what you are asking. We are happy with fng and yes, he is still on loan, but having a player on such an arrangement implies a lot of other stuff that I’m not really able to talk about”. Most likely, it was exactly fng’s ongoing contract with Gambit that delayed a final decision and an official announcement coming from the Alliance side.

For now, the team is focused on powering through the lower bracket rounds at OMEGA League, their first battle for survival being scheduled for today, September 2 at 20:00 CEST against Vikin.gg.
