Pokemon: How To Evolve Kubfu And Which Urshifu Is Better In Isle Of Armor

The centerpiece of Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor expansion is a new storyline that centers around Kubfu, a brand-new Legendary Pokemon that you’ll receive after you complete all three of the Master Dojo’s trials. Unlike most other Legendary Pokemon, Kubfu is actually able to evolve, and its evolution, Urshifu, can take one of two forms: Single Strike or Rapid Strike.

However, evolving Kubfu is a bit more involved than it may initially seem, and Urshifu’s two possible forms each have their own strengths and drawbacks. To help you decide which one to choose, we’ve put together this guide explaining how to evolve Kubfu and how its two evolutions compare. Isle of Armor story spoilers follow.

How To Evolve Kubfu

After you complete the Master Dojo’s three trials, Mustard will gift you the Legendary Pokemon Kubfu. To evolve it, you’ll need to challenge one of the Towers of Two Fists, but before you can do that, you’ll need to increase your friendship with Kubfu. Fortunately, this is much simpler than the usual methods of improving friendship with your Pokemon.

After you receive Kubfu, Mustard will mark down several areas on your map that have great views. You’ll need to visit three of these and speak to a dojo member at each to max out your friendship with Kubfu. It doesn’t matter which viewpoints you visit, so you have some flexibility over how you approach this trial. Once you’ve visited three of the areas, return to Mustard and you’ll earn the right to challenge either the Tower of Darkness or the Tower of Waters.

Each tower consists of five battles, but you can only select one of them to challenge, so think carefully before you begin. Your Kubfu will need to be at least level 70 to gain access to the tower, and it must be the only Pokemon in your party for the challenge. After you defeat the first four trainers, your final battle will be against Mustard, who uses his own Kubfu.

Your Kubfu will evolve differently depending on which of the two towers you challenge. If you complete the Tower of Darkness, it will evolve into Single Strike Urshifu, a Dark/Fighting type; if you complete the Tower of Waters, it will evolve into Rapid Strike Urshifu, a Water/Fighting type.

Which Kubfu Evolution Is Better?

Both Single Strike and Rapid Strike forms of Urshifu have the exact same Ability–Unseen Fist–and base stats, so neither is more powerful than the other. The biggest difference between the two forms is their potential movesets. Although they can learn many of the same attacks, Single Strike Urshifu is able to learn a handful of Dark-type attacks, including the signature move Wicked Blow. This attack deals damage and always results in a critical hit unless the opposing Pokemon has an Ability that prevents crits, such as Battle Armor or Shell Armor.

Similarly, Rapid Strike Urshifu is able to learn a handful of Water-type attacks. This form’s signature move is Surging Strikes, a multi-hit attack that strikes opponents three times. Although each hit has a fairly low base power, all three strikes are always critical hits unless the opposing Pokemon has the aforementioned Abilities.

Ultimately, which Urshifu you should choose comes down to personal preference. Single Strike Urshifu’s biggest drawback is its 4x weakness to Fairy Pokemon, which are fairly prevalent in competitive play, although it gains immunity from Psychic types. Meanwhile, Rapid Strike Urshifu’s Water typing opens up weaknesses to Grass and Electric Pokemon. Another point to keep in mind is that Water/Fighting is a less common type combination than Dark/Fighting. The only other Water/Fighting Pokemon is Poliwrath, while Pangoro and Scrafty share Single Strike Urshifu’s typing.

How To Get Gigantamax Urshifu

Both forms of Urshifu are capable of Gigantamaxing, although they won’t have that ability innately. As with your Galar starter, you’ll need to teach Urshifu how to Gigantamax, but you can’t simply feed it a regular Max Soup as you can other Pokemon; you need an additional ingredient for the dish called Max Honey.

Max Honey can only be obtained after defeating a Dynamax Vespiquen raid. You’ll be tasked with battling one on Honeycalm Island as part of Isle of Armor’s story. After you’ve obtained the Max Honey, you’ll need to combine it with three cluster of Max Mushrooms to create a special Max Soup that will give Urshifu the ability to Gigantamax.

Kubfu isn’t the only new Pokemon you can evolve in Isle of Armor; you can also evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowbro, a brand-new regional variant that comes with a unique Ability called Quick Draw and an exclusive Poison-type attack called Shell Side Arm. The Isle of Armor expansion also gives you the ability to teach certain Pokemon how to Gigantamax thanks to a special dish called Max Soup.

If you’ve just picked up a Sword or Shield Expansion Pass, here’s how to access the Isle of Armor. You’ll also receive an early purchase bonus for getting it before August 31: new clothing items based on Leon’s cap and tights. Here’s how to claim those. How Social VR Helped This Esports Player Overcome Social Anxiety

Julian Apellanes was never comfortable going out of his house and although he struggled with issues like anxiety and depression, he didn’t want those things to define him. In a trend noticed by others, Apellanes has discovered a new path to reality through social VR. And unsurprisingly, he has dreamed of immersive gaming since he was a child.

“I’ve been gaming all my life and I thought how cool it would be to be inside those worlds,” the 27-year-old explained to me in an interview. Once news about the original Oculus Kickstarter came along years ago, he kept up with the progress and dreamed of a day when he’d be able to immerse himself in the gaming environment rather than simply watching the action unfold on a 2D screen.

Finally, when the Oculus Rift was released in 2016, his dream became a reality, but he couldn’t have known how being immersed in virtual environments would actually give him the confidence to face more traditional social settings.

Apellanes became interested in gaming as a very young child. Raised by his grandparents, he would watch his grandpa play games as a toddler and by the time he was seven or eight years old, he was a master himself.

“I got my online / gaming alias from my grandpa,” explained Apellanes. “He originally came up with the name ‘Palidore’ as the name of his character in the RPG classic Baldur’s Gate, in the late 90s.”

Although his early years in gaming were spent in the lap of his granddad, watching him play and occasionally being permitted to help with a click of the mouse, eventually he began creating his own saves of the game and the name Palidore stuck with him.

Throughout his childhood and teen years, Apellanes started to spend more and more time playing games. In the case of VR, however, you’re actually more present and engaged in the virtual environments, whether you’re floating above the Earth or flying through a virtual arena.

“VR kind of blended the borders between reality and virtual reality,” said Apellanes. “It gave me the first step through that door of interacting with people a lot more so although I was still indoors and interacting with people within my own house, it was very social.”

Early studies of the technology, such as one Facebook IQ commissioned with Neurons Inc in 2017, revealed that people respond positively to interactions in virtual reality. This is particularly true of introverts, who might be less self-conscious and have more confidence in a virtual environment.

Social platforms such as AltspaceVR, Bigscreen, VR Chat, and Rec Room are revolutionizing social interactions. Games with social lobbies where players can hang out, chat, and even talk about tough life issues such as dating, schoolwork, and problems at home are indicative of the fact that people are possibly more comfortable in their virtual bodies than their real ones.

“Just getting to be part of the worlds and experience a totally different reality than you’re used to,” said Apellanes, “but still in the comfort of your own home, that’s huge.”

In the summer of 2017, Apellanes began playing in the beta of Echo Arena, a built-for-VR game from Ready At Dawn that utilizes a unique form of movement as players fly, glide, and boost through a zero-gravity environment rather than walking or teleporting. The immersive feeling of the game is so convincing that players frequently report feeling a sensation of “floating” in physical reality after initially playing the game.

Soon after the game’s release, it was featured in the first season of the Oculus-sponsored, ESL-run VR League (called VR Challenger League at the time). Apellanes created a team with two friends – Kerestell “Lemming” Smith and Bryan “iShiny” McCarthy – and they proceeded to dominate the newly formed league.

Being part of a championship team boosted Apellanes’ self-esteem, but the glory of winning also came with a price. Apellanes would have to leave the comfort of his home to compete at LAN events. Initially the team competed at Oculus Connect 4 in San Jose, California and eventually they would travel to Katowice, Poland and Leicester, England.

The team roster changed a bit during seasons 2 and 3 as Simeonk21 replaced iShiny, who remained on as coach. They managed to claim the second world championship in season 2, but failed to qualify for season 3 finals.

Apellanes took it in stride. Since he couldn’t attend VR League Season 3 Grand Finals as a finalist, the young man who wouldn’t leave his room several years earlier purchased a plane ticket to Leicester, England and attended the finals as a community member.

“Everyone has a purpose in life and sometimes it takes time to find it,” stated Apellanes. “For me, getting to go into Echo and being pretty good at it, start making friends, and things like that … my personal success there made me realize I could be good at something. I discovered who I was and who I could be.”

Since he became involved with VR esports, in addition to being one of the world’s top players, Apellanes has also written articles about his experiences and he has become a caster for the Echo Arena VR Master League (VRML). He was recently brought on as a board member for the VRML, a community-driven platform that features the most competitive VR games on the market.

“VR allowed me to kind of show myself what I was capable of,” he stated, adding that he has been “continuing the momentum since then.”

“VR has been a positive influence in many ways,” he said. “VR has helped me socially and mentally with things like anxiety and depression. It allows you to step out of your comfort zones while still being in your comfort zone. VR lets you get out without getting out.”

When people can experience environments at a self-regulated pace, it enables them to develop coping skills that they might find difficult to develop in traditional environments. Whether someone is extremely shy or they’ve experienced trauma, the ability to control the rate of exposure to an environment is vital to success.

The phenomenon of virtual reality being used as exposure therapy without actually forcing people into stress-inducing settings in physical reality hasn’t gone unnoticed by others. Even the Veterans Administration is using virtual reality to help service members deal with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) through programs such as Bravemind VR Exposure Therapy.

“VR is a tech we’ve never quite seen before,” said Apellanes. “It immerses your brain in ways it doesn’t expect. Because of that, it helped me and it helps a lot of other people step out of their comfort zones and experience new things.”

These days Apellanes stays incredibly busy casting games and promoting VR esports. He keeps his eyes open for opportunities as the industry continues to grow and he explores career avenues, looking for ways he might be able to use his talents in a world where virtual and physical realities intersect.

Do you have any stories about how VR has helped you with social anxiety, depression, or something else? Let us know down in the comments below!

[Last Chance] Pokemon: How To Claim Free Shiny Zeraora From Pokemon Home

Pokemon Sword and Shield players can grab another free Pokemon for a limited time. Because more than one million trainers defeated the Mythical Pokemon Zeraora in Max Raids this month, all players will be able to receive a free Shiny Zeraora right now via the mobile version of Pokemon Home. Here’s how to claim it.

Everyone who has transferred a Pokemon from Sword or Shield into Home, or vice versa, between June 17 and July 6 will be able to claim the free Mythical Pokemon, even if you haven’t participated in a Zeraora Raid. Once you’ve met that requirement, follow these steps to receive your Shiny Zeraora:

  • Select the Menu button at the bottom of the screen
  • Select Mystery Gift
  • Select Gift Box
  • Tap on the Pokemon in the Gift Box and select Receive

Alongside Zeraora, you’ll also get a download code to redeem in Sword or Shield for a handful of Armorite Ore. These are new items introduced in Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor expansion, and they have several uses. You can pay Ore to an NPC inside the Master Dojo to teach a Pokemon brand-new moves, or you can give some to Digging Pa to dig up more Watts, which are necessary to upgrade the dojo with additional amenities.

The Shiny Zeraora distribution ends at 4:59 PM PT on July 6, so you’ll only have until then to claim the Pokemon. You can read more details about the distribution on the official Pokemon website.

Shiny Zeraora isn’t the only free Pokemon you can claim in Pokemon Home. After transferring a Pokemon to the cloud service, you’ll also receive all three Galar starters: Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. You’ll likewise find these monsters waiting inside your Gift Box, and each one has its Hidden Ability, which weren’t previously available in Sword and Shield.

We gave Sword and Shield’s first expansion an 8/10 in our Isle of Armor review. Critic Kallie Plagge wrote, “DLC is new to the main-series Pokemon games, and it’s certainly a great alternative to replaying the same game a year or two later when the souped-up rerelease comes out. But like the traditional third or ‘Ultra’ version, The Isle of Armor does refine much of the experience we had in vanilla Sword and Shield, with a more interesting Wild Area to explore and some small quality-of-life tweaks that further the progress Gen 8 has made in that regard.”

Dr Disrespect's Twitch Ban–No Answers After One Week

High-profile Twitch streamer Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV (better known as Dr Disrespect) has been banned from the livestreaming platform yet again. And this time, it seems to be permanent, rather than a temporary matter involving a DMCA. Beahm himself said he is unsure of why he was banned. However, others on Twitter claim the reason could be very serious, and not because of a copyright claim, as some originally speculated. We still don’t know why Beahm was hit with a ban. His punishment is one of the highest-profile bans in Twitch history, and a week after the decision was handed down we still don’t have a clear idea of why this ban has happened.

Why Was Dr Disrespect Banned From Twitch?

It’s unclear exactly why or how long Dr Disrespect will be banned. Following news of the ban Dr Disrespect did not say anything publicly about the situation, and searching for his Twitch account yielded no results. However, on June 27, a day after news of the ban broke, Beahm broke his silence and posted an update on Twitter, addressing his fans. According to the streamer, Twitch has not provided him with any specific reason for the ban. Meanwhile, Monday’s temporary suspension of Donald Trump was accompanied by specific reasoning, with Twitch even citing specific violations of its “hateful conduct” policy.

Dr Disrespect’s Statement On His Ban

Regarding Dr Disrespect’s ban, Twitch has offered no specific explanation for the move publicly. Of course, this has left room for speculation. Some have suggested that it could be the result of a DMCA takedown (of which there has been a flurry recent). However, this would ordinarily result in a temporary ban.

Twitch’s Statement On Dr Disrespect’s Ban

When we reached out to Twitch for comment, we were given the same generic statement already offered to the wider community: “As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”

The Twitch Community Reacts To Dr Disrespect’s Ban

Dr Disrespect was banned from the livestreaming platform back in June 2019 for broadcasting from a public restroom at E3. The ban only lasted two weeks and saw a divisive response from the Twitch community.

According to esports reporter Rod Breslau, Dr Disrepsect’s ban is not related to a DMCA measure, and is in fact a permanent ban, rather than a temporary one. This was the first indication there could be something more serious going on than a simple copyright issue. Twitch is also giving refunds to those who had subscribed to his channel and his emotes are no longer on the site.

Breslau also shared a video from Beahm’s final stream that showed him struggling to speak, possibly because he knew what was about to happen.

Zach Bussey, who reports on Twitch happenings, indicated there won’t be a public statement shared by Twitch regarding the ban, but that he too has heard it is permanent.

Another streamer, Shannon Plante (AKA ShannonZKiller), indicated that she’s heard the Dr Disrepect ban is a permanent one, adding that the cause is “serious.” She offered no further specifics, saying she knows the reason for the ban but that she “cannot say” more. She does state that he is “done, and not just on Twitch.” At the time of this writing, his YouTube channel and Twitter account remain online, but Plante deleted her tweet.

Dr Disrespect’s ban comes not long after Twitch removed several other prominent streamers for alleged sexual abuse and harassment, including IamSp00n, BlessRNG, DreadedCone, and others. Earlier this week, Twitch said it would be issuing permanent suspensions following its investigation into these allegations. The accusations led to a Twitch blackout, with streamers staying off the platform for a day to encourage the streaming service to take action against abusers.

Giphy Removes Dr Disrespect GIFs

Popular GIF hosting service Giphy has also apparently removed GIF material featuring Beahm from its site. This is despite the reasoning behind the ban still not being made public.

In related news, two Ubisoft executives were suspended as the company continues its internal investigation into recent misconduct allegations. A day prior, Ubisoft released a statement about these allegations and its response to them, stating its commitment to “taking any and all appropriate disciplinary action” if necessary.

The PS5 Is A Behemoth For A Very Good Reason

Many people were surprised by the striking design of the new PS5, which abandons the black box design of recent console generations for bold curves and a striking black-and-white color scheme. While it didn’t take long for players to start making memes about the appearance of the console, others have noted its increased size over its predecessors, the PS4 and even the original “fat” PS3. That giant size is, according to one Sony employee, because the console generates an enormous amount of heat. With that much power comes a need to keep the system cool, and a huge case was necessary.

When one commenter asked on LinkedIn why the console is so bulky–as spotted by VG247–PlayStation’s vice president of UX design Matt MacLaurin replied: “Thermals. This gen is little supercomputers. While the 7nm process delivers amazing heat performance for the power, the power is very extreme.”

However, there might be other reasons for the large size. A leaked patent seems to suggest that Sony is building a cartridge that might work with the PS5. Some observers have speculated that it’s an external solid-state drive that will slot into the console for memory management, but there’s no official word if that’s the case. We still don’t know how much the PS5 will cost, or the PS5’s full line-up of games, but odds are likely that more details will come out over the coming weeks. Most of its announced first-party games are also not going to be ready for launch. However, it should receive plenty of third-party support out of the gate. This includes sports games like Madden and NBA 2K, and presumably the Call of Duty series. Some of these will be cross-generational releases.

The Xbox Series X is also a huge console, but it sports a PC-like form factor that is more familiar to players. The console, like the PS5, can be placed horizontally or vertically.

The Last of Us 2 voice actor Laura Bailey sent horrifying death threats

Laura Bailey, who voices Abby in The Last Of Us 2, has shared horrifying death threats she’s received over people disliking the character.

The voice actress took to Twitter to share some of the terrifying messages she’s been receiving following the release of the game.

She wrote: ‘Man. I try to only post positive stuff on here… but sometimes this just gets a little overwhelming.

‘I blacked out some of the words cuz, ya know, spoilers. Side note. Thank you to all the people sending me positive messages to balance it out. It means more than I can say.’

One message read: ‘I’m going to kill you because you [blacked out] in the la of us part 2.’

Another said: ‘I’m going to find where you live and slaughter you for what you did to [blacked out]. Mark my f**king words.’

One more said they hope her parents die, in a horrifying abusive message.

Friends and fans of the voice actress have been quick to send her support, with YouTuber JackSepticEye writing: ‘Im so sorry you have to deal with this!’

Actress and cosplayer Mica Burton told her: ‘Laura you are such a damn light in this world and ANYONE who stoops this low doesn’t deserve to consume anything your talent has touched.

‘I am so sorry there are such hateful pathetic humans in this world, you deserve so much better. You deserve the world <3 love you.’

Duck Tales voice director Sam Riegel added: ‘You are a magnificent actor and brave individual to stand up to these attacks. They are cowards hiding behind the internet. I love you.’

Appreciative of the support, Laura added afterwards: ‘Damn. The amount of encouraging responses to this… I’ve always believed that good people far outweigh the bad. Thanks for reminding me of that today.’

Some have been comparing Laura’s situation to that of Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran, who faced horrendous abuse due to viewers disliking her character Rose Tico.

Meanwhile, many have been urging fans of the game to understand that the actress is separate from her character, with one writing: ‘Laura Bailey literally plays some of the best video game characters and all these angry nerds are sending her death threats because of Abby… Shut up and realize a job is a job.’

The Last Of Us 2 was released last month. Laura is also well known for her work on video games including Marvel’s Avengers, World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, and the Street Fighter games.

PS5 price news: Leak gives PS4 fans plenty to get excited about

PS4 gamers hoping to pick up a PS5 when the release date rolls around later this year have been delivered some big news. After much mystery and speculation Sony at last announced in June plenty of details about the PS5 during its major PlayStation 5 reveal event. The blockbuster PlayStation showcase unveiled exclusive games heading to the PS5, and revealed the design of the console itself and the digital-only version of the system.

But there are still some big questions fans have about the PS5 – namely how much it will actually cost and when the release date will be.

And, according to a new rumour, PlayStation gamers won’t have too much longer to wait to get these questions answered.

An alleged leak has claimed the PS5 release date will be revealed in July, with the price also getting announced then and pre-orders going live alongside it.

Which is great news for PS4 fans hoping to reserve their PS5 unit well in advance of the next-gen console’s launch.

  • PS5 system overhaul: Sony to make THIS major PlayStation improvement

The rumours come courtesy of Roberto Serrano, who was replying to a post from VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb about all the major gaming events this summer.

Serrano wrote: “July 13 > #PS5 price, release date and pre-order. TBC”.

One of the reasons why Serrano’s tweet is of interest is the Twitter user previously correctly revealed the date of the re-arranged PS5 event before Sony confirmed it.

When asked further about the rumoured PS5 price and release news, Serrano said there was “no event planned at this time”.

Which, from the sounds of it, means we could just be getting the announcement drop in a PlayStation Blog post instead of during a live stream event.

This would be reminiscent of the way Sony unveiled their DualSense controller, revealing the news out of the blue on a Tuesday.

He also added that the PlayStation 5 announcement should come on July 13 or before it.

Sony are believed to have more PS5 reveals in the works ahead of the console’s launch during the holiday period this year.

It’s rumoured the PlayStation makers will be holding another PS5 event in August which could look at more games heading to the system.

If that’s the case, then Sony may want to get the lingering price questions out of the way before then so more of their in-the-works games can do the talking.

It remains to be seen how much the PS5 will end up costing, and whether there will be a big price difference between the console with a disc drive and the digital version.

A rumour that emerged recently claimed that the PS5 Digital Edition would be priced at £349 – the same price the PS4 launched at in 2013.

It also claimed that the PS5 with a 4K disc drive would cost £449, and that the next-gen PlayStation would have a release date in November.

  • Lewis Hamilton calls out rival F1 teams for Black Lives Matter silence

This isn’t the first time that Epic Games has done something to help keep the attention on discussions of race in America.

Last month Epic Games decided to delay the launch of Fortnite season 3, and the season 2 live event, in the wake of widespread Black Lives Matters protests that began in the US before taking place across the globe.

The protests, which are still going on, were sparked following the killing of George Floyd.

The 46-year-old died in police custody with horrifying footage recorded by a bystander showing a police officer kneeling on his neck.

Floyd’s plea of “I can’t breathe”, that was captured in the footage, has since become a rallying cry that has been heard at protests worldwide.

Four sacked police officers have since been charged in relation to the killing of Floyd, who was a father to a six-year-old daughter.

When Epic Games announced plans to delay Fortnite season 3 and the recent live event they issued a heartfelt and earnest message about racism in the world today.

They said: “Recent events are a heavy reminder of ongoing injustices in society, from the denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism both overt and subtle against people of colour.

“We’re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing.

“We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics.

“The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities.”
