OpTic Gaming supposedly changing up roster before CDL New York

One of the most turbulent Call of Duty League teams is reportedly making a huge change late into the season. According to reports from insiders, OpTic Gaming Los Angeles plans to bench superstar Brandon “Dashy” Otell. Along with this, reports state that they have benched Martin “Chino” Cheen as well. In their place, it’s suspected that OpTic wants to sign two amateur players from UYU. While this strategy has worked out for other CDL teams this year, some believe it’s too late for a major roster change.

      OpTic benches Dashy and Chino?

The story around OpTic Gaming L.A. in the CDL has been a rollercoaster. The roster started out extremely poor, failing to win many maps, let alone matches. However, after a roster move that left Jordan “Jkap” Kaplan on the bench, the team turned things around.

In fact, OpTic managed to make it to a grand final on one occasion. This success was short-lived, though, as they returned to their losing ways quickly after. This led to the organization firing its head coach, Jonathan “Pacman” Tucker. Now, apparently, it has led to more drastic measures.

According to insider @IntelCallofDuty, OpTic aims to sign two amateur players in place of Dashy and Chino. The reasons behind Dashy and Chino’s benching remain unknown, but clearly OpTic has seen other teams have success with amateur players. They now hope to imitate that strategy.

Sources: @OpTicGaming looking to sign both @Drazah_ and @Hollow412

      — CDL Intel (@INTELCallofDuty) July 6, 2020

The amateur players in question are Zack ‘Drazah’ Jordan and Darien ‘Hollow’ Chverchko, both from UYU. These two players have found success playing in CDL Challengers, finishing highly in most open events. However, many question whether they are an upgrade over someone like Dashy.

Of course, these reports aren’t confirmed by official sources, but we can still take them somewhat seriously. The roster lock deadline for CDL teams was yesterday, so we’ll likely see confirmation of this news later today or tomorrow. If the reports turn out to be accurate, we’ll get to see both Drazah and Hollow play their first matches at the New York Home Series starting on July 10.

With Modern Manufacturing, A New PS4 Is Born Every 30 Seconds

A new report from Nikkei’s Asian Review offers a behind-the-scenes look at Sony’s PlayStation manufacturing plant in Japan. One of the most notable takeaways is that the process of making a PlayStation console is now largely automated–that’s right, robots are building game consoles.

The report says this advanced automation allows the PlayStation manufacturing plant in Kisarazu to assemble one PlayStation 4 console every 30 seconds.

There are humans involved in the process in a limited capacity–two humans put bare motherboards on the assembly line, and two others package the final consoles once they’re made.

Sony uses Mitsubishi Electric’s robots for the actual assembly of the PS4 consoles. A total of 26 robots are assigned to making PlayStation consoles at the plant, and some processes involve two robots working together to complete tasks. One example is that one robot will hold a cable, while another will twist it.

The new, robot-heavy assembly line in Kisarazu was completed in 2018. This will presumably be the same manufacturing line that creates the PlayStation 5 consoles that are due for release later this year.

In addition to the new PS5, Sony will continue to manufacture PS4 and PS4 Pro models, along with the digital-only PS5 edition. Robots will make this process faster and more efficient. No one quoted in the story is worried that the robots will become sentient and overtake the factory despite outnumbering their human production counterparts by a significant margin.

Xbox Series X Pre-Order Sign-Ups: Be Notified When Store Listings Are Live

Since it revealed the Xbox Series X at last year’s Game Awards, Microsoft has been trickling out information about its next-gen console. We’ve seen what the Xbox Series X controller looks like, learned details about the console’s build and specs, and how the Xbox Series X will handle backward-compatibility. The Xbox Series X is still expected to launch later this year, and while it’s not available to pre-order yet, you can sign up for notifications at a number of different retailers. Here’s what we know about Xbox Series X’s release date, price, and more.

We recently saw Microsoft’s first full showcase of the Xbox Series X, showing off a number of games coming to both Xbox One and Series X, with many supporting the company’s “Smart Delivery” system. You can also expect more news up until launch, as Microsoft will also be releasing updates every month as part of a new “Xbox 20/20” showcase during their Inside Xbox show. There wasn’t a June update, but there’s likely to be one in July and August.

When will Xbox Series X be available to pre-order?

While we don’t have an exact pre-order date for Xbox Series X, several retailers–including Best Buy, Target, and GameStop–are now letting people sign up to be notified when the Xbox Series X becomes available for pre-order. (You can also sign up for PS5 pre-order notifications.) We would have expected pre-orders to go live around E3 2020 in June; however, the event has since been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That said, Microsoft has confirmed it’s having its own Xbox digital event in place of an E3 conference, so it’s more than likely Xbox Series X pre-orders will go live around that time.

With the current state of the world, it’s hard to be certain about anything at this moment, and the Xbox Series X pre-order date could come later than expected because of stock restrictions or other concerns. Either way, you can still sign-up below to be notified as soon as Xbox Series X goes up for pre-order.

      Xbox Series X release date

Thankfully, we do know the Xbox Series X is releasing later this year–its current release window is Holiday 2020. While the novel coronavirus pandemic has raised some questions about production and delays, Microsoft hasn’t announced anything in that vein. Xbox head Phil Spencer recently spoke to IGN about a “plan B” if the pandemic forces them to stagger the Xbox Series X’s launch. Spencer believes it’s important to have a simultaneous worldwide launch for the Xbox Series X, especially in the age of social media, as the Xbox One’s staggered launch only hurt the console.

How much will the Xbox Series X cost?

We don’t yet know the price for Xbox Series X. While the console was revealed months ago, Microsoft is holding off on revealing a price and opening pre-orders until customers know what they’re paying for, the company told GameSpot. “We think, in the end, what people want from us is … to put a controller [in their] hand,” said Xbox partner director of program management Jason Ronald in a December 2019 interview. “People tell me, ‘Hey, I want to pre-order right now,’ and we definitely love that–like it’s great to have those fans–but I also know that these investments aren’t trivial for families. I want to be transparent about what our design goals are.”

It’s clear the company plans to show the full range of Xbox Series X’s capabilities before announcing a price. Xbox head Phil Spencer has said the company learned a hard lesson from the Xbox One generation about being more expensive and less powerful at the beginning. “We will not be out of position on power or price,” he told The Verge, referring to Xbox Series X.

      • Everything Microsoft Has Said About How Much Xbox Series X Will Cost

What we do know about the Xbox Series X

Following the Xbox One X, Microsoft is poised to once again have the most powerful console on the market. Its GPU has 12 teraflops of power, which is about 1 teraflop more than what Nvidia’s RTX 2080 Super is capable of. The Xbox Series X is capable of displaying true 4K, performing up to 120 frames per second, and storing games on its 1TB custom SSD. The Xbox Series X will make use of propriety expandable storage cards to extend the amount of SSD space the console has. It’s unclear if Microsoft will be the only company producing the special expandable storage (it’s currently working with Seagate to produce the cards).

The SSD storage will be required for Xbox Series X-only games, though you’ll still be able to use your Xbox One’s external hard drives. These external hard drives can be used to store and play backward-compatible games from the Xbox One X, Xbox One S, Xbox 360, and original Xbox. You can also store Series X games on these external hard drives and then transfer them to Series X storage to be played. Speaking of, every game playable on an Xbox One is also playable on the Xbox Series X. Microsoft also said that there won’t be any Xbox Series X-exclusives for the first year or two; Xbox One owners will also be able to play Microsoft’s new games for the next couple years.

As for the Xbox Series X controller, Phil Spencer said Microsoft didn’t feel like it needed to start from “square one” with a new controller.

“We think we have a good controller in the market today,” Spencer told GameSpot. “But there were certain things that we’ve learned through doing the Elite controller and just listening to fans. One of them is on the D-pad. We have a new hybrid D-pad that we’ve been working on and think is important.”

The controller also adds a Share button and keeps the rumble triggers and haptic feedback. It’s powered by two AA batteries as opposed to an internal battery that might lose performance and die over time. And you don’t have to own an Xbox Series X to use the new controller: It’s backward-compatible with the Xbox One. All Xbox One controllers, including both Elite controllers, are also compatible with the Xbox Series X. Be sure to check out our guide to the best Xbox One controllers that will be compatible with Xbox Series X.

New Batman Art Book Celebrates The Wonderful Animated Series

While there has been no shortage of quality animated Batman shows, Batman: The Animated Series remains a fan-favorite 25 years after its run ended. The 85-episode arc offered a more mature look at Gotham City than we were accustomed to seeing in superhero cartoons, had a striking art style that remains captivating today, and was held together by great performances such as Mark Hamill’s Joker. If you’re a longtime fan of the series, there’s an upcoming art book that you may want to add to your shelf.

Batman: The Animated Series: The Phantom City Creative Collection is a 144-page hardcover volume designed by Mondo in collaboration with Justin Erickson. Mondo is an online art gallery known for creating limited-edition prints for popular films, TV shows, comics, and other entertainment, while Phantom City Creative makes key art for films, TV, and music.

The collaboration will bring Batman: The Animated Series to life in a new way with beautifully designed prints celebrating the history and culture around the show.

Though the art book is available to pre-order for $60 right now, it’s worth noting that almost every art book gets discounted ahead of its release. A lot of times, it’s a significant discount, too. If you pre-order now ahead of its October 6 release date, you’ll get the lowest price offered up until it ships thanks to Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee.

If you’re feeling nostalgic and want to rewatch the show itself, Batman: The Completed Animated Series on Blu-ray is available for $55 at Amazon and Best Buy, which is $15 off its list price.

Fans Hate The Sims 4's New "Sperm" Eyeliner, So Modders Removed It

The Sims 4 recently got a large update prior to the release of its Eco Lifestyle expansion, but fans aren’t happy with all of the new additions. In particular, the new Mac makeup for Create-A-Sim has garnered a particularly strong reaction from players, with several referring to it as “sperm eyeliner,” for obvious reasons.

While fans could just avoid using the eyeliner on their Sims, the unfortunate reality is that the game uses all clothing options when it creates random “townies” to populate its different areas. Because of this, modders have already introduced ways to remove the makeup from the game entirely, including one that removes it for random Sims, and another that replaces it with a less suggestive alternative.

Eco Lifestyle is the latest expansion pack for The Sims 4, having released in early June. The expansion allows players to grow their own food in a new vertical garden. You can also dumpster dive for new furniture. The expansion costs $40, and in its wake, developer Maxis had to patch out an odd bug that caused Sims to urinate fire. Earlier this year, EA announced that The Sims franchise had passed $5 billion in lifetime sales. There’s been no word yet on how many Simoleons that converts to, but it’s probably quite a lot.

BIG take over No. 1 spot in HLTV's world rankings

This is quite an achievement for the German scene.

German CS:GO team BIG have become the top-ranked squad in the world for the first time, according to HLTV’s world rankings.

Their rank was updated today following the end of the second Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament of the year for Europe and North America, cs_summit six. BIG beat Vitality in the grand finals 3-2, even though they started with one map disadvantage due to coming from the lower bracket.

TabseN, XANTARES, tiziaN, syrson, and k1t0 have all seemingly peaked since June. They also won DreamHack Masters Spring Europe, where they beat G2 in the grand finals.

BIG only hold a slight advantage over Vitality, the second-best CS:GO team in the world, according to HLTV. The Germans have 851 points, three more than Vitality. BIG have gone up six positions since June 15, which was the last time that HLTV updated its rankings before today.

BIG have overcome a bit of a slump in 2020 after they didn’t even come close to winning an important tournament in 2019. This lineup has been playing together since Jan. 1, when k1to and syrson left Sprout to join tabseN and crew. The roster change paid off right away since BIG won DreamHack Open Leipzig in January and earned a slot to compete in DreamHack Masters Spring Europe.

“What an achievement,” tabseN said. “For me [personally] it means the world to be able to climb to #1.” The 25-year-old has been the best German CS:GO player for years and part of the CS:GO community doubted that he was capable of reaching the top with BIG.

Here are the top 10 CS:GO teams in the world, according to HLTV’s rankings.

      1. BIG
      2. Vitality
      3. Evil Geniuses
      4. Natus Vincere
      5. G2
      6. Fnatic

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Pre-Order Guide–All Bonuses And Editions (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

A fantastic action-RPG from 2012 will soon make its way onto modern consoles: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (now dubbed Re-Reckoning) will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this August. The Kingdoms of Amalur remaster has now officially been announced by publisher THQ Nordic, although multiple listings appeared prior to the announcement on online storefronts like Xbox Live and Amazon. You can grab your copy on August 18.

Originally released on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was generally well-received and earned a 7.5/10 in GameSpot’s Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning review for its top-notch combat, flexible character advancement, and extensive world, although former reviews editor Kevin VanOrd noted its overall generic world and story.

“In the future, when you talk about Kingdoms of Amalur, the first thing you will probably mention is how fun the battles were,” he wrote back in 2012. “Incredibly, this RPG’s combat is so exciting, it could have been used in a pure action game and would have held up just fine. In fact, from a swordplay, loot, and leveling perspective, Kingdoms of Amalur is as good as any RPG in recent memory. This is the role-playing game you should be playing if excellent action and progression are your primary concern.”

Despite its popularity, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was surrounded by drama when its original developer, 38 Studios, declared bankruptcy and shut down, eventually leading its home state of Rhode Island to sue the studio’s founder over a controversial $75 million loan. In September 2018, THQ Nordic acquired the rights to Kingdoms of Amalur, although the company confirmed to Eurogamer at the time that Electronic Arts still holds publishing rights, requiring EA’s approval for a remaster.

Whether you played the original RPG or are just hearing about Kingdoms of Amalur, the remaster will be the perfect chance to return to Amalur or explore it for the first time with improved visuals, refined gameplay, and all DLC unlocked. If you’re interested in securing your copy early, check out where you can pre-order Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning below, including its Collector’s edition.

      Pre-order Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning standard edition | $40

Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is currently available to pre-order for PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $40 on Amazon. While there is a placeholder listing for the Kingdoms of Amalur remaster on Xbox Live, you can’t actually pre-order yet on that platform. The standard edition will include all DLC from the game’s original release. This game is also supported by Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee, so if the price drops at any time before release, you’ll be charged the lowest amount when it ships.

      Pre-order Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Collector’s edition | $100-$110

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning has a pricier Collector’s edition, a nice option for longtime fans of the game. The Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Collector’s edition will include the base game and all DLC as well as an Alyn Shir collectible statue, an Amalur keychain, a copy of the original soundtrack, and five Amalur artworks. It’ll cost you $110 to own on PS4 or Xbox One and $100 on PC. It’s currently sold out, though it’s likely to come back in stock ahead of launch.

[Last Chance] Destiny 2 Red-Hot Iron Quest Guide: Here's How To Get The Forward Path And Fool's Remedy Fast

The Iron Banner has returned to Destiny 2 for the first time in the Season of Arrivals, and sports a new quest that’ll unlock two re-issued weapons for your arsenal. Those guns are The Forward Path, an auto rifle, and The Fool’s Remedy, a sidearm, and both have interesting perks you’ll want to check out. To get them, you’ll need to complete the new Red-Hot Iron quest from Lord Saladin in the Tower. The first Iron Banner event of the season ends at the weekly reset on Tuesday, July 7, so get to work if you want to grab the guns without having to wait for the next opportunity.

The quest requires some grinding to get the guns, but it’s actually really quick. There’s only one step–here’s how to knock out Red-Hot Iron quickly and efficiently.

      Old Reliables

Defeat opponents with Sidearms (25) and Auto Rifles (25).

This step is just your standard kill-getter, but your choice of guns will help. First, you want to try to earn precision kills for quicker progress. For auto rifles, guns like SUROS Regime, Hard Light, and Gnawing Hunger are favorites that’ll get the job done pretty quickly. Sidearms are more of a dealer’s choice situation, but three-round burst models like Last Hope or full-auto options are pretty solid, and the charged-up shot of Devil’s Ruin can be effective as well.

The trick with earning kills with sidearms is not to rely on them. The guns can sometimes be reliable kill-getters, but more often than not, you’ll want to soften your target up with your primary weapon and the switch to your sidearm to finish them off–primary weapons like grenade launchers are great for this. It’s also effective to run in groups with your teammates, letting them whittle down targets so you can hit them with your sidearm for the assisted final blow.

Return to Lord Saladin when you’ve racked up all your kills. The good news is that you’ll get all the rewards in one go when you turn in the quest, including both weapons. You might want to turn in tokens for packages with Saladin once you have the guns unlocked, as you can get random rolls for both The Forward Path and The Fool’s Remedy.

Here’s what else you can expect from Ubisoft Forward this Sunday.

Game Reveals, Announcements, And “Other Surprises”

Among the many games that will be discussed during Ubisoft Forward, the studio confirmed that very specific news about some games will be revealed. The long-awaited AI Squadmates update for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will finally be talked about, as well as a deep-dive into The Division 2 easter eggs, additional Just Dance 2020 news, and more. Currently, it’s unclear if previously-announced titles–Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six Quarantine, Roller Champions, and others–will make an appearance. However, Ubisoft did say “a few other surprises” will be unveiled.

Ubisoft Forward Start Times, Where To Watch

Ubisoft Forward will go live on Sunday, July 12 at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET, with a pre-show happening 30 minutes before. Check the image below to see the exact start time in your respective region.

Ubisoft has also confirmed that you can get a free copy of Watch Dogs 2 during Ubisoft Forward. All you have to do is login to your Uplay account after the Trackmania playthrough and before the show concludes to claim Watch Dogs 2 on PC. There will also be additional rewards you can earn during the livestream by participating in trivia questions. Answering them correctly will net you various in-game items across some of Ubisoft’s games, though the studio didn’t specify which games exactly.

      Embroiled In Controversy

Despite Ubisoft Forward–which was announced in response to the cancellation of E3 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic–continuing as planned, the studio has been hit with an assortment of allegations in recent weeks. AC Valhalla creative director Ashraf Ismail stepped down following infidelity allegations, company executive Maxime Beland resigned after being accused of abuse and assault, and other employees who have been reported have been suspended in the wake of rising allegations. It’s unclear if product and brand marketing manager Andrien Gbinigie, who was accused of sexual assault, still works at Ubisoft Toronto, the studio currently finishing up Watch Dogs: Legion.

As a result of the recent allegations against a number of Ubisoft employees at all levels of the company, studio founder and CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed a “structural shift” is coming. Guillemot outlined a series of steps Ubisoft intends to implement in the wake of the company’s #MeToo moment, from appointing a “Head of Workplace Culture” to establishing a diversity board that will review and improve the company’s policies and procedures.
